WALKS - RAMBLERS WALKERS HIKERS

Numerous walks to be enjoyed in North Devon especially around these parts.

A Sunday afternoon spent leisurely walking and rambling in the Devon countryside is medicine for the soul. With so many beautiful country walks around, The Rockford Inn is a great place to base yourself; right In the heart of Exmoor National Park where you have easy access to many of our beautiful and picturesque landscapes. Riverside trails, waterfalls and rapids, wooded valleys, picturesque farmland, bleak moorland and rugged coastline (see our pics) are all within easy walking distance.

The Samaritans Way

A walk linking the Cotswolds, the Mendips, the Polden Hills, the Quantocks, the Brendons, Exmoor National Park and the North Devon Coast. It starts at Clifton Suspension Bridge on the spectacular Avon Gorge, and continuing across the Chew Valley with its peaceful lakes, over the Mendips to Cheddar, along the Somerset Levels to historic Glastonbury and on to the Quantock Hills with a scenic ridge walk to the villages around the Brendon Hills. The route then crosses Exmoor National Park to Doone Valley and Badgworthy Water, follows the East Lyn River past The Rockford Inn and climbs Myrtleberry Cleaves to Lynton.

The walk was devised by Bristol Ramblers members to help attract visitors to the countryside and contribute to the rural economy, with profits from the guide going to the Samaritans in recognition of their support for the Farmers Help Line.

Over 30 miles of the Tarka Trail is available to cyclists between Braunton and Meeth, using the old railways of North Devon. Passing through the largely unspoilt countryside as it was described by Henry Williamson in his classic novel ‘Tarka the Otter’.
