Small spate brings in fishA spell of more persistent rain on Tuesday put the river in to a brief spate. Highest spring tides of the summer brought in a run of bigger summer fish. They skipped through very quickly. One of my guests hooked a fish estimated at 10lb in the Watersmeet area.. After playing the beast for 10 minutes he was broken as the fish bolted in fast water. Fish were observed all morning running hard in pods of 6 - 8 fish, several were very good doubles. These fish will probably be up towards Brendon by now as they had no intention of loitering in the lower river. Hopefully some grilse followed them in and will make slower progress up river, as several fish were seen this morning. The river is now back to summer levels. Fish white water and pots away from the holiday crowds .No Comments

Rain at lastAfter a decent spell of rain the river is in a small spate with colour. There were many fish showing just off Lynmouth harbour on Wednesday evening. I imagine that some of these are well on their way. The river will fall quickly after such a long dry spell and with groundwater levels being very low. Best bet is Lyn Rock to Watersmeet. Please note that the direct link to the webcam is not working. Search on Farson Digital River webcams directory for the East Lyn and you can pick up the link from there View Comments (1)

Rain Please and Hydro PowerRiver very low, and a good spate needed. Fresh fish cruising off Lynmouth harbour so they are there. Warming up so brown trout fishing should be excellent. There is a scheme proposed for Hydro power on the Lyn. Reliable information on salmon and sea trout migration patterns is needed ( not anecdotal ) but based on experience. If you are a regular on the public access beats please contact me if you are willing to share to some of your experience and knowledge. Input to this potential project is important to ensure there are no barriers to upstream migration. Phone number is 01598 753618 or email to spratters@aol.com.No Comments

Rain neededThe camera still appears to be off-line. The river that you cannot see is very low. We have had no significant rainfall for over a month now, certainly not enough to cause the river to go in to spate - which is now needed to bring in fresh fish that may be waiting in Lynmouth bay. I have no reports of any fish being caught, and I suspect angling pressure is very light. I did spot a couple of sea trout lying in the tail of Overflow pool about two weeks ago, but the river has dropped away since then, and any sea trout in the river will be very hard to catch in the current conditions. February weather has returned to North Devon and seems set to stay. The air tempertaure at 11.00 am today was a balmy 5 celsius with a gusty North easterly. It is May!!No Comments

Update on 29 MarchI have a very reliable report of fish entering the river on the late tide on Saturday 27th. They were observed moving up to Tors Road bridge on the big spring tide. Water temperatures are still low and it is unlikely these fish will move too far up river. Try the big pools between Overflow pool and Watersmeet. The camera if off line but this morning ( Monday), the water was a perfect height with a little colourNo Comments
