The Rockford Inn sits beside the East Lyn River as it flows through the beautiful and peaceful Brendon Valley in Exmoor National Park. The rural public house dates back to the 17th century and provides a cosy and convivial atmosphere in which to relax. Its a traditional North Devon country pub popular with local farmers, ramblers and fishermen alike and set in an isolated and remote hamlet. We offer excellent home cooked seasonal foods, local brewed real ales and comfortable accommodation in which to stay, where we offer full and half board.fillerfillerJoin Today!filler

Small spate brings in fish

A spell of more persistent rain on Tuesday put the river in to a brief spate. Highest spring tides of the summer brought in a run of bigger summer fish. They skipped through very quickly. One of my guests hooked a fish estimated at 10lb in the Watersmeet area.. After playing the beast for 10 minutes he was broken as the fish bolted in fast water. Fish were observed all morning running hard in pods of 6 - 8 fish, several were very good doubles. These fish will probably be up towards Brendon by now as they had no intention of loitering in the lower river. Hopefully some grilse followed them in and will make slower progress up river, as several fish were seen this morning. The river is now back to summer levels. Fish white water and pots away from the holiday crowds .
